Towards the Future, Innovation-by-Innovation
In the development and continuous optimization of its own product portfolio, OBO Bettermann set themselves high quality standards regarding the innovation-centered outlook of their product concepts. Consequently, they have the same expec- tations of their suppliers and business partners. For years, OBO Bettermann has been utilizing a system for Product Information Management (PIM) and Media Asset Management (MAM). However, while the company grew as time went by, this system barely managed to meet the minimum conditions to keep up. In the light of the innovation and future centered focus, however, it was foreseeable that switching to a state-of-the-art system would soon become inevitable in order to continue to move with the times. There’s a multitude of examples for this: For instance, the old system lacked built-in Data Quality Management functions (DQM), modern import and export functionalities for the newest data formats to maintain compatibility to and active information exchange with third-party systems, as well as a comprehensive workflow for managing product data automatically. Accordingly, OBO Bettermann looked out for a partner who can deliver those required PIM and MAM solutions.

Supported by a prestigious consulting company and equipped with a detailed project requirements document, OBO participated in intense workshops with the various PIM providers. Besides battle-testing whether the software functionalities meet the defined tech requirements and analyzing their potential partners’ innovative company culture, OBO Bettermann wanted a strong partner with a competent team that is capable of planning and implementing their continuously growing requirements in a reliable manner.

The decision to go for a standard software that supports generic data models was indeed a conscious one. An aspect of utmost importance is to plan ahead for a sustainable future. More than PIM — Omni-Channel Marketing Solutions
To pool together all time and resources, a unifying system for all processes revolving around product info and media data is to be implemented. Here, eggheads Suite does not only cover PIM and MAM components: For example, this also includes multi-lingual translation workflows, or the so-called ‘Portal technology’ of the eggheads Suite software portfolio that allows you to present the managed product info and media data in a simple-yet-professional manner — be it inhouse or live-and-in-color at the customer’s side thanks to browser-based web access, be it via computer or mobile devices thanks to the app’s Full Responsive Design. The communication of OBO Bettermann’s Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) and eggheads Suite is established on the basis of built-in import and export functions. Those classification systems are specific to the respective industry and allow for a standardized information management of products and services: covering among other things improved data quality, improved comparability, optimized data exchange between the systems involved. The BIM standard is for planning, installing and opera- ting buildings and facilities; while BMEcat is a standardized data exchange format contributing significantly to Product Information Management. Overall, this project is already right in the middle of its implementation phase.
